Theryl “Houseman” DeClouet Makes Mardi Gras Comeback

Former Galactic Front Man Returns to the Stage in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL – On February 16th 2010, Houseman returns to the stage and brings Mardi Gras to his new home – Chicago. The New Orleans legend and former lead singer of Galactic is back with a new Chicago-based group, The Housewreckers. Houseman & The Housewreckers are headlining Chicago’s hottest Fat Tuesday celebration at Martyrs’ (3855 N. Lincoln Ave.).

"I just feel like it's time – time for real talent, real musicianship – time for me to come back and do my thing. Music keeps me going spiritually and emotionally. I'm coming back to do what I do best – rock the house and get the party started," said Houseman.

Theryl “Houseman” DeClouet was featured on the first six Galactic albums (four original studio albums) and has two critically-acclaimed solo albums to his credit. Houseman left Galactic in 2004 due to health concerns and relocated to Chicago after Hurricane Katrina took everything he owned.

"If you've ever seen Galactic, then you've heard the sweet soul music of The Houseman, Theryl DeClouet. Straight out of Hollygrove, from back-town New Orleans, Louisiana, the last great soul voice of the proud New Orleans tradition does it on his own, and in the process shows us how it was, how it is and how it's gonna be,"
proclaimed Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows.

The February 16th Fat Tuesday celebration at Martyrs’ will be an authentic New Orleans experience. To compliment the funk, soul and classic Mardi Gras tunes of Houseman & The Housewreckers, Martyrs’ will be serving up hurricanes, etouffee, jambalaya and red beans and rice, along with other N’awlins favorites.

Local groove band Crystal Gravy will be serving up an extra helping of funk, combining the punch of three hot horn players with the groove of a thick four man rhythm section. They emulate the sounds of Fela Kuti, James Brown and the Budos Band, delving into afrobeat, psychedelia, soul, latin and funk.

Tickets to the event are available for purchase at www.martyrslive.com for $12 in advance of the show.

Check out Houseman's head-shot and a YouTube! (after the jump).
