Music fans, the Houseman is back! The New Orleans legend and former lead singer of Galactic is back with a new Chicago-based group led by keyboardist Michael Cole.  Theryl "Houseman" DeClouet was featured on the first six Galactic albums (four original studio albums), and has two critically-acclaimed solo albums to his credit.  Houseman left Galactic in 2004 due to health concerns and relocated to Chicago after Hurricane Katrina.  Theryl and I became friends a few months ago and started working on new music and putting together a new group in his new home town of Chicago.  We are proud and excited to relaunch the Houseman's career with a full-blown, authentic Mardi Gras show at Martyrs' in ChicagoTickets are on sale now for the Fat Tuesday show, which also features the horn-laden funk of Crystal Gravy.  More information about Houseman and the upcoming Mardi Gras 2010 show below...

After years singing with a capella soul groups 'The Lyrics' and 'Hollygrove', Houseman appeared on Galactic's first album, Coolin' Off in 1996 (on San Francisco's Fog City Records).  It was followed up by Crazyhorse Mongoose in 1998 and Late for the Future in 2000 (on Capricorn/Polygram Records).  Galactic toured heavily during this time, released the live album "We Love 'Em Tonight: Live at Tipitina's" in 1999 and compilation album Vintage Reserve in 2003.  In 2001, Houseman released his debut solo album, The Houseman Cometh!, which featured Galactic members on only 2 songs, to critical acclaim.  In 2003, Galactic released Ruckus on Volcano Entertainment (after Volcano bought Capricorn).  Houseman left Galactic in 2004, unable to handle the rigorous touring schedule while coping with kidney disease.  In 2007 Houseman self-released his second solo album, Truth Iz Out with help from his childhood friend Ivan Neville, keyboardist of The Neville Brothers and son of lead vocalist Aaron Neville.

Houseman's new band of Housewreckers are some of the top musicians in Chicago, capable of bringing the heavy Galactic-style funk or grooving out the smoother soul jams found on Houseman's solo albums.  This show is a coming out party for Houseman and will feature songs from the whole Galactic catalog, both Houseman solo albums, N'awlin's Mardi Gras classics, and many surprises.  Crystal Gravy will keep the party going with their funky Afro-beat jams and DJ Skachmo will provide the Mardi Gras sounds between sets.  There will be food and drink specials!  Hurricanes, etouffee, jambalaya and more! We'll also have red beans & rice, greens, cornbread and more.
